***EDITED 8/17*** Website News!!! Plus, McFarlane Toys: Dragons 4 Concept Art & Philip Tan!

***EDIT 8/17/06***

Let’s try something fun! I want to make this site a little more interactive and get you, my faithful few, something more to do whilst visiting this website. I’m going to try some gimmicks every month to draw you in. There will be giveaways and contests for original artwork, books, sketches, and maybe even gift certificates to nifty little shops! Who knows, I’m flying blind over here!

First item, I’ve been receiving emails with questions regarding how I work, what it’s like to work for certain clients, advice and tips on breaking in as an artist/designer, and so on. Rather than just sitting in my little hole, reading, answering, and keeping these questions to myself, I figure I’d let everyone else in on what goes on in my world.

So, what I’d like for all of you to do is this. Email me at: jin@drawjindraw.com, or visit my Contact page by clicking HERE. Send me any questions you may have regarding art and design, breaking into the business, movie recommendations, best American Idol moment, whatever! Ask away to your heart’s content.

I’ll sift through each letter, and answer each one. But here’s where you get interactive with the website! I will select a group of your random questions every few weeks and post a “Featured Question“ on the banner of my Homepage, which will be accompanied by a custom drawing done especially for that particular question. My homepage has an image randomizer, so you will be able to see several different questions and images cycle through each time you refresh!

But even sweeter than the glory of having your questions grace the pages of a moderately known website, I will send you the ORIGINAL drawing, FREE of charge. You heard me, free!

So get to clicking and send those questions in! If you missed it earlier, send your emails to: jin@drawjindraw.com, or visit my Contact page by clicking HERE. I will give this a week before I begin posting the answers, so enough people to get a chance to write in.

Remember to include the following information in your email. Just copy and paste this form:

Name: (FIRST name only is fine)
Location: (city/state or city/country)
Your Question:
Favorite Character: (or request non-licensed characters)

Talk to you soon!

Ok, finally some new work in the gallery! The concept drawings for McFarlane Toys, Dragons Series 4: The Fall Of The Dragon Kingdom are now up in the Pro work gallery.

Click HERE for the drawings, and HERE for the McFarlane Toys’ web page featuring photography of the figures.

These were drawn back in the beginning of the year, and once again, the sculptors, model makers, and painters in the little house on the Turnpike have taken the drawings to another astounding level, and created some amazing work! It’s always a treat for me to see what they come up with. Thank you to everyone involved!

***** And of course *****

Lastly, I would like to give Philip Tan a BIG plug and thanks! Known for his success as penciler for books such as Uncanny X-Men, Mutant Earth, Taleweaver, and Everquest: Transformation, he is now responsible for penciling duties on the Spawn monthly comic.

We were introduced for the first time this past San Diego ComiCon, and he was just a pleasure to be around. Genuinely one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I’ll find that dumpling house I was talking about, Philip!

So be sure to check out his work in the pages of Spawn. Issue #158 is on the shelves now, and #159 is right on its heels!

That’s all from me this week! Thanks to everyone for stopping by!

Update 07/18/06

This guy, Jin, keeps talking about all this “new work coming soon,” and yet, there’s only been a sliver of new goodies in the gallery over the past few months. What’s the holdup?

Well, I’ve tried putting up a good front, but it’s been to no avail. I have taken a bit of a hiatus from the life of a full-time artist over these past few months. Due to some personal family issues, I am currently helping my family out and working in another field of business. Quite different, in fact.

Don’t get the wrong idea though!

I’m still keeping the pencil sharp and the paper ready. But because my time for art/design is limited, I have selected just a few clients to work with for the time being. So, to whet your appetite and keep you coming back, here is a bit of news on what I’ve been up to.

I continue to work with Orson Scott Card. For what projects, I cannot say because, well, I don’t even know. But there will be more in the near future. In the meantime, please visit his website, HERE, for all the latest news on his current and upcoming projects. And visit his online magazine, The Intergalactic Medicine Show, HERE.

I have also been delivering small chunks of designs to McFarlane Toys. All for upcoming lines such as, Dragons Series 5, Spawn Series 31, and a few others that are brand-new to the world of McFarlane Toys. And that’s all I’ve got to say about that. Click HERE for the Spawn website and see what’s brewing over there.

Then there are my personal projects. You’d figure I could go ahead and show this stuff whenever I please, but no. I’m getting some new work together that will be presented in a format, other than just my website. Namely, by the way of published books. One will feature a body of work as an Art Of, in addition to one that will be more along the lines of a comic/illustrated book. So, if I were to show all that here, where’s the fun in seeing it in print?

The San Diego ComiCon is this weekend. Have a fun and safe trip to all those attending! That’s it for this week.
